The Winning Combination of Our Work at Play

With our expanded product portfolio and integrated marketing resources, the new IGT is truly living up to our “winning combination” tag line.  And I’m proud to be a part of the global marketing team that helps supports IGT’s impressive game portfolio.   While I’ve been at IGT, I’ve learned so much about how a slot machine moves from ideation, to development, to market launch.  The licensing team, the studio game designers, the product managers, and everyone in between, all play such integral parts in bringing our games to life.  But, today I want to talk about the most important people in the game development process—the players.  We build games for the players.  So, you might say, the single most powerful group of influencers in our game development process, don’t even work for us….we work for them.


With this in mind, I savor every opportunity to interact with players.  Since joining IGT, a walk through a casino property has taken on a whole new meaning.  In the past, I would have concentrated on what I wanted to play, drink, eat, or enjoy while at a property.  But now, I have a whole new perspective and find myself observing players —the games they like, the ones they don’t and how much time they allot to a particular game before moving on to the next.  All the wonderful and interesting things that come out of our games originate here.  We entertain…and who doesn’t want to be an entertainer at heart?


I have a fun job, but it’s not without its stressful moments.  In the hustle and bustle of the work week, it’s easy to get consumed by projects.  That’s when I know it’s time to step outside of the cubicle and head to the casino for an instant reminder of my job’s joy and why I do what I do.  That’s what inspires my best work.  And, I’m not alone in this.  All of our talented game designers and product developers are inspired by players.   Creating games that players want to play is a win for them, for our customers and for us.  Talk about a winning combination.
